Cambodian football supporters were left disappointed after Cambodia’s crushing 1-0 loss to Pakistan in the second match of the first round of FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifying play on Tuesday afternoon in Islamabad, Pakistan.Some fans are calling for head coach Felix Dalmas to step down.
Tuesday’s battle was decisive and final since it was the second of two matches in the first round of FIFA World Cup 2026 qualification. Cambodia’s loss eliminates it from the second round of FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
For the Pakistan side, their win was a historic first. Their national football team has never advanced to second round play at any FIFA World Cup qualifier before. With the victory, Pakistan now joins three teams in qualifier group G – Tajikistan, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.
Under the hashtag “Felix Out,” supporters left comments on the Football Federation of Cambodia’s official Facebook page. Some fans disapproved of the coach’s player selection and disapproved of his coaching strategy.
The critical fans claimed some players – including young striker Sor Rotana of Visakha, defender Reung Bunheing of Visakha and young striker Khorn Soben of Boeung Ket – should not have been selected for the national team.
Fans said that these players are not top players. During league play, they usually get very little time on the field. None of the three have shown any exciting scoring ability or special style of play.
Also, the fans noted that these players also were placed in positions that did not correspond to their primary skills.
For example, Nick Taylor – whose primary position is usually left winger – played instead as a left back in the second-leg encounter against Pakistan on Tuesday. Also, Reung Bunheing – usually a defender – was placed in the striker position.
