Nintendo has announced the release of "Alarmo," a new alarm clock priced at 12,980 yen. Starting today, it will be available for purchase on My Nintendo (exclusive to NSO members). It will be released in Nintendo stores in Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto tomorrow, and will be available at third-party retailers after mid-February 2025.
Alarmo utilizes motion sensor technology to respond to your movements, allowing you to silence the alarm simply by moving. It transforms waking up into a fun experience. The clock features 35 thematic scenes from five different games, including Super Mario Odyssey, Pikmin 4, Splatoon 3, Ring Fit Adventure, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Once connected to the internet, users can receive new themes for free in the future, such as those from Mario Kart 8 and Animal Crossing.
Users can also check their records to see how often they move during sleep, set hourly chimes based on their chosen game theme, and switch between the steady or gentle modes for the morning alarm. In steady mode, the alarm becomes progressively more intense the longer you stay in bed, while gentle mode provides a consistent intensity level. There's also a button mode that gives a more traditional experience with a tactile "snooze" button. Additionally, you can use sleep sounds to relax with soothing music and sounds at your set bedtime.
The 2024 Nobel Prize in Physics has been announced. The Nobel Physics Prize Committee awarded John Hopfield from the United States and Geoffrey Hinton from the University of Toronto, Canada, for their “fundamental discoveries and inventions in machine learning based on artificial neural networks.”
Both laureates have been conducting significant work related to neural networks and physics since the 1980s. They will share a prize of 11 million Swedish kronor.
The committee stated, “They developed techniques to process information using network structures by applying fundamental concepts and methods from physics. This led to an explosive development in machine learning over the past twenty years.”
John Hopfield is recognized for inventing an associative memory that can store and reconstruct images and other types of data structures. When distorted or incomplete images are input into the Hopfield network, it systematically processes nodes and updates their values, thereby reducing the energy of the network. As a result, the network gradually finds the stored image that is most similar to the imperfect input image.
Geoffrey Hinton built upon the Hopfield network to create a new network called the Boltzmann machine, which can learn to recognize feature elements within a given type of data. This machine is trained by inputting examples that are likely to occur during its operation. The Boltzmann machine can be used for classifying images or generating new examples of the types it has been trained on.
Ellen Moons, the chair of the Nobel Physics Prize Committee, stated, “The work of the laureates has produced tremendous benefits. In the field of physics, we are applying artificial neural networks across a wide range of areas, such as developing new materials with specific properties.”
Moons added, “Humanity has the responsibility to use this new technology safely and ethically to maximize its benefits for humanity.”
In response to the significance of researching this technology, Hinton remarked that artificial intelligence will have a profound impact on our society, comparable to the Industrial Revolution. However, he noted that it will not surpass humans physically, but rather intellectually. “We have never experienced something smarter than ourselves.”

The official website for the Tokyo Game Show 2024, which is scheduled to take place from September 26 to 29 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba Prefecture, has been launched today, July 4. The website has released a list of exhibitors and details on the sale of tickets for the general public days (September 28 and 29 are the general public days, while September 26 and 27 are business days).
As of July 4, the number of exhibitors stands at 731 companies, with 448 domestic and 283 international companies. The number of booths has reached a record high of 3190. Report: Medical professors at Seoul National University(SNU) Hospital, SNU Bundang Hospital, Seoul Metropolitan Government SNU Boramae Medical Center and SNU Hospital Healthcare System Gangnam Center began an indefinite walkout on Monday.
An emergency committee of the four hospitals’ medical professors urged the government on Sunday to scrap the administrative measures imposed on trainee doctors who have taken collective action in protest of the government’s decision to hike admissions at medical schools.
Roughly 520, or some 55 percent of medical professors at the four hospitals, are estimated to have stopped offering outpatient services.
The committee assessed that treatment at the four institutes will decrease by around 40 percent and the surgery room operation rate will slip from 63 percent to the 30 percent range.
The Korea Alliance of Patients Organization, meanwhile, called on the doctors to scrap the suspension of services.
Concerns that the current medical vacuum will worsen are growing as members of the Korean Medical Association(KMA) are set to shut down their clinics on Tuesday.
The KMA, mostly representing doctors in private practice, unveiled a set of demands for the government on Sunday, saying it would reconsider Tuesday’s planned suspension if the government agrees to reconsider the admissions quota hike. They also demanded the government revise a policy package on essential medicine and retract all administrative orders against trainee doctors and medical students.
The government refused the association’s calls, saying it is inappropriate to make policy demands with an illegal suspension of medical services as a precondition.

The owner of the Facebook account named Komar Tep apologized to Samdech Techo Hun Sen this morning in a statement.
This apology came after Samdech Techo Hun Sen, on the night of June 6, 2024, came out to confirm that account of Komar Tep does not belong to him and asked the man to stop posing as him.
Replying to a post by the fraudulent poster, the PM stated: “I, Hun Sen, would like to confirm that the Facebook name of Komar Tep is not mine. Please stop posing as me and post my activities and my family.”
