The live-action film “Kingdom: Flames of Destiny” has attracted over 3.05 million viewers and generated a box office revenue of 43.7 billion yen within 28 days of its release. Riding on this record-breaking success, the long-hidden casting of Yoshikawa Koji and Oguri Shun has finally been revealed.
Based on Yasuhisa Hara’s popular manga “Kingdom,” the film grandly portrays China’s Spring and Autumn Warring States period. This is the third installment in the film series, with the previous two releases in 2019 and 2022 also becoming major hits. The latest film tackles the most emotional episode in the series.
In this announcement, Yoshikawa Koji has been revealed to play the role of Pang Nuan, the real supreme commander of the State of Zhao, who is also revered as a “War God.” On the other hand, Oguri Shun plays the enigmatic Li Mu, a character that Zhao has kept secret. Preview footage had teased these two characters with only silhouettes and back views, making their true identities a hot topic.
Special PV footage and visuals add even more tension and grandeur to the film, generating high expectations for how Pang Nuan and Li Mu will impact the storyline.
In the character visuals, Pang Nuan is depicted in darkness with a mysterious aura, while Li Mu is seen in daylight, radiating gentleness, hinting at the contrasting personalities and positions of the two characters.
