He expressed excitement about the collaboration with Illumination’s team to make it an enjoyable film.
The movie follows the success of “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” released on April 28, 2023. This previous film was a collaborative effort between Nintendo and Illumination, known for franchises like “Despicable Me” and “SING.” It was directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, known for “Teen Titans GO! To the Movies,” and the screenplay was written by Matthew Fogel, who also wrote for “Minions: The Rise of Gru” and “The Lego Movie 2.” The film was a global success, grossing $1,361,683,297 worldwide, with ¥14.02 billion in Japan alone.
