The release date for the live-action movie “Cells at Work” has been set for December 13, 2024. It has been revealed that for the first time in the series, a “human world” will be depicted, based on the manga “Cells at Work” and “Cells at Work! BLACK.” Additionally, the second wave of casting announcements has been made, including Sadao Abe and Mana Ashida, alongside the already revealed dual leads Mei Nagano and Takeru Satoh. The original “Cells at Work” manga, serialized in Kodansha’s “Monthly Shonen Sirius” by Akane Shimizu, personifies cells in a novel and unique setting that has sparked considerable conversation. It gained international attention, including being featured on the “Recommended Books List for This Summer” by France’s “Le Monde” in 2017, and exploded in popularity with its 2018 anime adaptation. Since then, the series has continued to expand with several spin-offs, and total circulation of the series has exceeded 10 million copies.
The forthcoming live-action movie will draw from both Akane Shimizu’s “Cells at Work” and the spin-off “Cells at Work! BLACK,” supervised by Shimizu and written by Haruyuki Yoshida and Issei Hatsuyoshiya, to depict the “human world” for the first time in the series history.
