Mizuno has developed uniforms that prevent voyeurism through infrared technology. These uniforms will be worn by Japanese national volleyball team members and athletes in 14 other sports at the Paris Olympics.
The uniforms, embodying the “MUGEN CONCEPT” which represents the athletes’ limitless potential to enhance performance, were unveiled with this innovative feature. Mizuno has long faced the challenge of developing uniforms that balance visibility prevention and dynamic performance. However, with the increase in high-functionality cameras and the resulting rise in voyeurism, the focus shifted to protecting athletes from such invasions of privacy. This led to the development of “infrared-blocking fabric.”
In developing this fabric, Mizuno collaborated with Sumitomo Metal Mining, which specializes in high-performance materials, and Toppan Printing, which excels in composite material technology. They used materials that absorb infrared light in the fibers, ensuring the essential functions of sportswear, such as elasticity and breathability, were maintained.
