The Blu-ray and DVD of “Haikyuu!! The Movie: The Battle of the Trash Heap” will be released on October 30, 2024. The film, which premiered on February 16th, became a blockbuster hit, grossing over 11.2 billion yen.
“Haikyuu!!” started its serialization in Shueisha’s “Weekly Shonen Jump” in February 2012 and quickly became a staple sports manga by Haruichi Furudate, depicting the passionate lives of high school volleyball players. The manga concluded its 8.5-year run in July 2020 with over 60 million copies in circulation across 45 volumes.
The TV anime began broadcasting in 2014 and has captured a wide audience, culminating in the fourth season, “Haikyuu!! TO THE TOP.”
The movie portrays one of the most popular episodes from the manga, the so-called “Battle of the Trash Heap” – Karasuno High vs. Nekoma High, in what is the first part of the final two-part series of the movies.
Upon its release, the film quickly became one of 2024’s biggest domestic hits, attracting over 7.88 million viewers and grossing 11.29 billion yen within 158 days, showcasing its international appeal as well.
The Blu-ray and DVD release will include a luxurious edition featuring a special clear case, a wrap-around outer case designed by character designer Takahiro Kishida, and a specially designed digipack. Audio bonuses will feature a re-recorded version of the theater’s “Gather! Commentary Screening!!” along with event videos from the stage greetings and a collection of promotional videos and commercials.
Additional inclusions are a special booklet, selected storyboards (tentative), and a special sticker sheet among other premium contents. Fans can also look forward to unique merchandise bundles and original bonuses available with certain purchases, making it a significant release for collectors and fans alike.
