After a three-year hiatus, “Dragon Ball” returns to the Gashapon “HG Series.” The first release features Son Goku in all four types.
Created by Akira Toriyama and serialized in “Weekly Shonen Jump” from 1984, “Dragon Ball” has been a staple of the magazine’s golden era, leading to several anime adaptations including “Dragon Ball Z,” “Dragon Ball GT,” “Dragon Ball Kai,” and “Dragon Ball Super.” The franchise has been cherished worldwide not just through its shows but also through continuously released merchandise like figures.
In 2022, the film “Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero” debuted, topping box office charts in Japan and the U.S. during its opening weekend. October 2024 will see the premiere of “Dragon Ball DAIMA,” a completely new series with original story and character designs by Toriyama.
The first installment of the revived “HG Dragon Ball” series, “HG Dragon Ball 01 GOKU EDITION,” will gradually roll out starting the last week of July, featuring four versions of Goku: “Super Saiyan,” “Super Saiyan 3,” “Ultra Instinct,” and “Ultra Instinct ‘Sign.'”
Despite their small stature of about 10 cm, these figures capture Goku’s muscular build and torn gi with meticulous detailing, including gradient and pearl paint on the hair, highlighting the craftsmanship. The second installment is already in the planning stages, with silhouettes of the four new figures revealed.
The “HG Dragon Ball” series is available at Gashapon Bandai Official Shops, toy sections, major retailers, and electronics stores across Japan, priced at 500 yen (tax included) per attempt.
