Turkish Ambassador: Turkey to open Turkish trade office and cultural centre in Cambodia

Prak Sokhonn, First Vice President of the Senate, received ÜLKÜ KOCAEFE, the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Cambodia, on April 30 to pay a courtesy call.

Sokhonn expressed his pleasure in meeting with the ambassador for the first time as the first vice president of the Senate. The Ambassador congratulated Prak Sokhonn on his election as First Vice President of the Senate and wished him even greater success in his new position.

The Ambassador said that the Senate has leaders who have a lot of ability and experience in leading foreign policy and parliamentary diplomacy, especially Prak Sokhonn and his colleagues, who have contributed significantly to the strengthening and expansion of relations between the two countries. She also noted that friendly relations and cooperation between Turkey and Cambodia have grown significantly in the last 15 years.

In response, Sokhonn said that both Cambodia and Turkey have good and close relations. He also noted with satisfaction the outcome of the working meeting between the Ambassador and Hun Sen, President of the Senate, and with Ouch Borith, Second Vice President of the Senate, both of which further contributed to strengthening diplomatic relations and bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

The First Vice President of the Senate also highlighted the priority goal of Hun Sen as President of the Senate: he wants to turn the Senate into an active diplomatic parliament. This year marks the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. He hopes that the two Cambodian and Turkish legislatures will have activities to celebrate the event.

ÜLKÜ KOCAEFE informed the First Vice President that the Turkish Embassy in Cambodia is planning to hold an exhibition of documents and images of relations between the two countries since 1959 to celebrate the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The Ambassador expressed her satisfaction and congratulations on the opening of the Turkish trade office and cultural centre in Cambodia.

She also thanked the Cambodian Parliament for supporting Turkey in becoming an IPA observer in the past. She also requested that Cambodia support Turkey as a Dialogue Partner of ASEAN and support the Maarif Foundation’s initiative to contribute to the development of education in Cambodia.

Rival Camps Agree to Handle Special Itaewon Probe Bill in Thursday’s Plenary Session

Rival camps have agreed to handle in Thursday’s plenary session a special bill that seeks to establish a probe team to shed light on the 2022 Itaewon crowd crush disaster. 

The senior deputy floor leaders of the ruling People Power Party(PPP) and the main opposition Democratic Party(DP) reached the agreement on Wednesday to revise parts of the special bill. 

The two parties are said to have worked out details on the formation and operation period of the envisioned team and the method of investigation the team will implement. 

The special bill was passed in the opposition-dominated parliament on January 9 but was vetoed by President Yoon Suk Yeol later that month.

It currently is pending in parliament for a revote.

Shohei Ohtani’s Hard-Hit Home Run Adds to Torrid Start in 1st Season with Dodgers

WASHINGTON (AP) — Shohei Ohtani’s 450-foot home run on Tuesday night at Nationals Park was the hardest hit of his career.

The Los Angeles Dodgers star’s ninth-inning shot to the second deck in right field off Washington Nationals reliever Matt Barnes in the Dodgers 4-1 win left his bat at 118.7 mph.

“I thought I hit it really good,” Ohtani said Wednesday through his interpreter, Will Ireton. “I felt really good about it. Probably the best.”

It is the hardest-hit home run by a Dodger in the Statcast era, which began in 2015. The designated hitter leads the majors in batting average (.364), slugging percentage (.677) and OPS (1.107). He now has six home runs in his first 25 games with Los Angeles since signing a 10-year, $700 million contract.

Tuesday’s shot might have drawn more attention than most of Ohtani’s homers, but his typical contact stands out to Dodgers manager Dave Roberts.

“With Shohei, it’s not just the slug, it’s how hard he consistently hits the baseball,” Roberts said. “I can’t imagine a player hitting it that often, that hard consistently. That’s what’s remarkable to me. Even in years past, I would see him get some infield hits, but everything he hits, it seems like it’s 110 off the bat.”

Roberts said Ohtani was “in a class by himself” because of his ability to defend the strike zone from top to bottom and front to back while also slugging at a high rate.

“What he’s doing right now, I can’t say it’s never been done, but just the controlling of the strike zone, covering all the pitches, hitting to all the fields, versus left, versus right — and I get the best seat in the house every night,” Roberts said. “I have a tendency to put my fan hat on at times.”

Washington is the first stop in a three-city road trip for Los Angeles, which visits Toronto for a three-game series starting Friday.

It will be Ohtani’s first trip to the city since meeting with Blue Jays officials when he was a free agent during the offseason. Before he signed with the Dodgers, there were false reports about him being on a flight to Toronto.

“I was just following the news and I knew I wasn’t on that flight,” Ohtani said. “So I was curious, too.”

Japan’s Nikkei Edges Lower as Investors Await Fed Decision

TOKYO (Reuters) – Japan’s Nikkei share average fell in the morning session on Wednesday, with traders maintaining a cautious stance on the first day of the month ahead of the U.S. Federal Reserve’s monetary policy decision.

The Nikkei was down 0.56% at 38,189.54 by the morning break.

The broader Topix declined 0.64% to 2725.70.

The Federal Reserve Open Market Committee (FOMC) is widely expected to leave interest rates unchanged at the end of its two-day meeting on Wednesday, as U.S. inflation proves sticky.

U.S. stocks ended lower overnight as markets weighed economic data showing rising labor costs and deteriorating consumer confidence.

While markets have already pared back expectations of a Fed rate cut this year, investors remain wary of how hawkish a message Fed Chair Jerome Powell will send at his press conference.

Large policy rate gap between Japan and the U.S. continues to put pressure on the yen, raising questions on how excessive currency weakness will impact the local economy and the Bank of Japan’s rate outlook.

The risk of currency intervention, and suspicion that Tokyo may already have intervened, was also keeping investors on alert.

“In that sense, I don’t think people are going to be very keen to buy stocks while the yen is this weak,” said Hiroshi Namioka, chief strategist at T&D Asset Management.

Of the Nikkei’s 225 constituents, only 44 advanced versus 181 decliners.

Among individual stocks, earning results and share-specific news drew out some stark winners and losers.

Shares of chip-related equipment maker Lasertec jumped 16.1% after the company published an estimate-beating earnings post market hours on Tuesday.

West Japan Railway Co gained 7.7% on Wednesday following its decision to buy back 4.1% of its own shares.

JGC Holdings Corp was the largest decliner, falling 11.2% on disappointing revenue forecast.

The final episode of “Queen of Tears” sets a new record, surpassing “Crash Landing on You”! Ranked #1 in tvN drama history with viewership rating of 24․9%

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: New TV anime “Hashira Training Edition” available on WOWOW On Demand

នាង​បាន​រំលឹក​ថា វា​មាន​រយៈពេល​ប្រាំពីរ​ឆ្នាំ​ហើយ​ដែល​ខ្ញុំ​ចាប់​ផ្ដើម​បង្ហោះ​វីដេអូ​លើ YouTube។​ ខ្ញុំ​ចាប់​ផ្ដើម​ក្លាយ​ជា​ Idol កាល​ខ្ញុំ​នៅ​អាយុ 16 ឆ្នាំ​ជា​សិស្ស​វិទ្យាល័យ ហើយ​ខ្ញុំ​មិន​ដែល​បោះបង់​ចោល​ការងារ​ដែល​ខ្ញុំ​បង្ហាញ​មុខ​មនុស្ស​ឡើយ ប៉ុន្តែ​មុន ខ្ញុំបានដឹងថាវាមានរយៈពេល 14 ឆ្នាំហើយ។” នាងបានបង្ហាញការដឹងគុណរបស់នាងដោយនិយាយថា “អរគុណដល់អ្នកទាំងអស់គ្នា ទីបំផុតខ្ញុំបានទទួលរង្វាន់ហើយ! អរគុណច្រើន ។”

Yun បានប្រកាសរៀបការជាមួយ Silk Road តាមរយៈទីភ្នាក់ងាររបស់នាងក្នុងខែឧសភា ឆ្នាំ 2023។ នាងបានប្រកាសថានាងមានផ្ទៃពោះកូនដំបូងនៅថ្ងៃទី 29 ខែកក្កដា ឆ្នាំដដែល។ នាង​បាន​ប្រកាស​ថា​នាង​សម្រាល​បាន​កូន​ដំបូង​របស់​នាង​គឺ​ប្រុស​នៅ​ខែ​មេសា​ឆ្នាំ 2024 ។
