Overview
The tale unfolds around Guts, once a mercenary, now recognized as the "Black Swordsman," who is on a quest for vengeance. Yet, tragedy strikes when this individual betrays Guts, seizing all that he holds dear to fulfill personal ambitions. This act condemns Guts, making him a target for malevolent supernatural entities.
Embarking on a perilous journey fraught with adversity, Guts, equipped with a gigantic blade and unparalleled power, is unyielding. His resolve remains unbroken by even the specter of death, vowing to confront and defeat the one responsible for their immense loss.
Legacy
In 2002, Berserk was honored with the Award for Excellence at the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize's sixth ceremony.
The manga boasts a global print count of over 50 million copies. Since November 4, 2003, Dark Horse has been publishing it in English. The series also enjoys publication in numerous countries including Italy, Germany, Spain, and more.
The manga world was left in shock when, in May 2021, the creator, Kentaro Miura, passed away unexpectedly at 54. Chapter 364 of Berserk saw a posthumous release on September 10, 2021. Miura was known to discuss intricate details of the storyline with his lifelong friend and fellow manga artist, Kouji Mori. Under the artistic direction of Studio Gaga and oversight by Kouji Mori, Berserk made its return on June 24, 2022.
