On April 25th, the official X account (formerly Twitter) for the game software "SAND LAND" updated to release a pre-death message from Akira Toriyama, the manga artist and original author of the game, who passed away in March due to acute subdural hematoma at the age of 68.
This update was made on the release day of "SAND LAND." The account shared comments Toriyama made in January while viewing footage of the game in development. He expressed, "Although I haven't seen everything yet, the original manga's world has been expanded significantly, adding lots of fun elements with high quality. It seems to be a highly satisfying action RPG when seen as a standalone game, without any flattery."
Regarding the game's setting, he continued, "New worlds and characters, such as Forest Land which wasn't in the original, have been added. You can enjoy a more enriched story and extensive map adventures while playing as the demon prince."
Toriyama himself commented on the game, "I only play casual games, but I keep an eye on the modern games my family plays, and for an old guy, I think I know quite a bit," showing his self-deprecating humor.
"SAND LAND" is set in a world transformed into a desert by natural disasters. It tells the story of the devil's sons embarking on a quest for water to solve the crisis. Despite being a short series released in 2000, it has gained popularity worldwide for its unique world and story. The "SAND LAND project" was launched in 2022, and as part of this initiative, the game was developed. It was released today for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and S.

Developed by Japanese game developer Natsume Atari and published by the independent game publisher Edigger, the side-scrolling action platformer "KAGE: Shadow of the Ninja – The Ultimate Ninja" is officially set to launch on Steam for the Asian market on August 29th.
This new title, inspired by the classic NES game "The Legend of KAGE," has captured the attention of many gamers since its reveal last year. Revisiting the game 34 years later, this 16-bit style creation not only revitalizes the visual presentation but also features redrawn characters, enemies, and environments. It introduces a fresh level design and an innovative "Seven Items" system, offering players a novel gaming experience filled with surprises.
Visually, while maintaining a retro 16-bit aesthetic, the game uses modern technology to enhance the finesse and richness of the graphics. Observing closely, each detail is beautifully crafted—from raindrops falling onto the deck, splashing water, to the dimly lit enemy warships hovering over the vibrant cityscape—adding layers to the game scenes and immersing players in the experience.
The gameplay has reached new heights in both control and playability. In addition to traditional actions like running, jumping, hanging, and climbing, the game introduces new maneuvers such as mid-air suspension, wall running, and dash attacks. These new actions allow players to choose the appropriate response to various traps and enemies flexibly. Whether it’s quickly retaliating after dodging an enemy's attack or scaling walls to find an opportune moment to strike, these additions provide a more diverse combat experience and approach to level progression.
The game also introduces dozens of different items covering offensive, defensive, and support functionalities, which players can freely switch and utilize during gameplay. This means players can adjust their item setups as needed to optimize combat effectiveness. The high degree of freedom and flexibility ensures that each battle is filled with endless possibilities and challenges.
