Bandai Namco Entertainment has announced the return of the iconic character Heihachi Mishima in the latest installment of their 3D fighting game series, “Tekken 8.” Set for release on PlayStation 5 (PS5), Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, Heihachi will be added as the third playable character expansion this fall.
“Tekken 8,” launched on January 26, 2024, continues the saga where Heihachi, who was presumed dead in the storyline of “Tekken 7,” makes a dramatic comeback. The trailer features his signature laugh, showcasing him more vigorous than before his supposed demise.
The Tekken series is known for its grand familial conflicts, especially among the three generations of the Mishima family – Heihachi, Kazuya, and Jin Kazama, which often escalate into global strife. The storyline of Heihachi and Kazuya’s deaths followed by their returns has become a recurring theme in the series.
During the “EVO 2024” world fighting game championship in Las Vegas, where this announcement was first made, the presentation included self-parody elements, referencing past dialogues and a previous statement by series producer Katsuhiro Harada claiming Heihachi was “definitely dead.”
