Blizzard has officially announced the Overwatch World Championship Series (OWCS), a new international competitive circuit for “Overwatch” players from North America, Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and Asia. The 2024 season will feature several competitive stages, with each region hosting its own set of open qualifiers, allowing players to form teams and vie for a spot in the main event. OWCS Asia will include three divisions: Korea, Japan, and the Pacific region. Each division will host several championship tournaments, tailored to the local audience, with teams competing twice a year for OWCS slots.
The “Overwatch Championship Series” will be operated in North America, Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa by the Saavvy Games Group, a subsidiary of a Saudi Arabian esports company. The Asian regional competitions will be managed by the Korean organizer WDG. Each region will have its independent open qualifiers and championship tournaments. The final two major events will be a special tournament held at DreamHack Dallas from May 31 to June 2, and the World Finals taking place at DreamHack Stockholm on November 22.
