In this context, the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) stated in a press conference on the 28th that “over 1 million people have fled Rafah in the past three weeks.” The agency highlighted the forced evacuations and urgently called for a ceasefire.
Meanwhile, regarding the humanitarian situation in Gaza, the US Department of Defense announced on the 28th that a portion of a floating pier, set up by the US military to deliver humanitarian aid by sea, was damaged due to bad weather, leading to a suspension of aid deliveries.
The delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza has been disrupted since the ground operations in Rafah began, with checkpoints closed and other obstructions. The suspension of deliveries via the floating pier raises further concerns about the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the region.
