The consumer-oriented vintage clothing sales event “Furugi Fest,” organized by the fashion reuse industry group And Buyer, is gaining popularity. The 7th edition, held on June 23, attracted about 250 vintage clothing stores from all over the country, with approximately 17,000 attendees, 2,000 more than the previous event in December.
Started in 2017, the event is held twice a year. Exhibitors range from famous stores dealing in high-priced vintage wear to major retailers like WEGO, which operates multiple stores. Even businesses that sell exclusively online participate.
While some booths resemble storefronts, there were many booths that sold items in a flea market style by bringing in vehicles loaded with merchandise. Items for sale ranged from T-shirts priced in the thousands of yen to vintage military jackets, catering to both beginners and enthusiasts of vintage clothing.
The entrance fee is 500 yen, with many attendees being men in their teens and twenties. One visitor commented, “I like mixing vintage clothes with new ones. Today, I have a budget of 20,000 to 30,000 yen and I’m looking for short-sleeved tops.”
Masanori Fukushima, president of JAM Trading, a vintage clothing retailer and a director of And Buyer, observed, “With each event, more young customers are attending. This event is becoming a place for young people to buy vintage clothes.”
At WEGO, summer items like T-shirts and short-sleeved shirts priced in the thousands of yen sold well. “People have come to know that we sell not only new items but also vintage clothes.”
Fukushima noted, “With high attendance and strong sales, the event is highly regarded by exhibitors. The December event, where unit prices are higher, is expected to be even more successful.”

The news was released on June 26, 2024, through Takahashi’s official X account (formerly Twitter), accompanied by the launch of the official website and social media for the project. A special promotional video featuring original artwork was also released.
“Ranma 1/2,” serialized in “Weekly Shonen Sunday” from 1987 to 1996, is a martial arts love comedy about Akane Tendo, whose father arbitrarily decides her fiancé. However, the fiancé, Ranma Saotome, has a unique condition that turns him into a woman when splashed with water, setting off a series of comedic and tumultuous events involving their families and friends.
The series was previously adapted into an anime titled “Ranma 1/2” and “Ranma 1/2: Nettouhen” starting in 1989, along with movies and OVAs. The original anime featured voice actors such as Kappei Yamaguchi, Noriko Hidaka, and Megumi Hayashibara, among others.
In 2011, a live-action drama adaptation featured Yui Aragaki, Kento Kaku, and Natsuna.
Details about the new anime will be revealed during a live broadcast on the anime’s official X account on July 17, titled “Ranma 1/2 New Original Anime Big Announcement.” The event promises to unveil the latest updates with special guests in attendance.
Following the recent conclusion of the new “Urusei Yatsura” anime, which featured Hiroshi Kamiya as Ataru Moroboshi and Sumire Uesaka as Lum, expectations are high to see how this new “Ranma 1/2” adaptation will evolve and who will be cast in the iconic roles.

Starting July 2, Tokyo Disney Resort will launch a “soaking wet” program to beat the summer heat, running until September 18. At Tokyo Disneyland, Baymax, the healthcare robot from the movie “Big Hero 6,” will host the water spraying program “Baymax’s Mission: Cool Down” to protect guests from the summer heat.
Baymax’s mission is to raise the “energy levels” of guests that have dropped due to the heat. Baymax will travel along the parade route, spraying a cool mist and detecting areas where energy levels are significantly “low.” Upon detection, the float will stop, and Baymax will say, “Let’s get soaked and blow away the heat!” releasing a large amount of water to drench the guests.
This year, the amount of water sprayed has increased compared to last year. Trailers carrying water have been added to the back of each float. Accompanied by bright and cheerful music, this unique summer activity is sure to delight guests, who will be shouting with joy. For those wanting to get soaked by Baymax, waterproofing measures for your belongings are a must!

For the summer of 2024, Chanel’s theme is “Jardin Imaginaire” or “Imaginary Garden,” inspired by fairy tales that depict a magical natural world.
The makeup items reflect a utopian world where vibrant creatures live among blooming flowers. These products, filled with colorful hues, shimmer, and diverse shades, bring happiness with their unique nuances.
The must-have item this season is the cheek and highlighter “Jardin Imaginaire,” which features a captivating floral pattern. The fine powder and pearls provide a soft glow and delicate sparkle with a single application, while multiple layers add a flushed complexion and sunlit radiance.
For a three-dimensional look, apply the cheek color to the high points of your cheeks and the highlighter to areas where you want to capture light. Mixing the cheek color and highlighter with a brush is also recommended. This product comes in two colors: “Gold and Peach” and “Light and Berry.”
For bold summer eye makeup, the stick eyeshadow “Stylo Ombre et Contour” is perfect.
With a creamy and smooth texture, glide the pencil over your eyelids and gently blend with your fingers. It’s great for a single color or combining with other shades. Adding it as an eyeliner along the lash line can elevate your summer makeup to the next level.

■ What is the Purikura Machine ‘GIMMI’? ‘GIMMI’ is a purikura (photo sticker) machine designed to enhance the user’s photography experience, allowing for a more enjoyable and free shooting experience. It offers new features and a meticulously designed body that brings a fresh purikura experience with cutting-edge trends like Y2K & Y3K, which are popular with Generation Z.
The machine’s new design allows for shooting, doodling, and printing stickers all in one space. Unlike traditional machines, there’s no need to move between booths, providing a private space where the fun continues uninterrupted from shooting to doodling and printing stickers. Additionally, with the new “additional shooting” feature, users can take photos even while doodling. Up to 19 shots can be taken in a single session, catering to the desire to take as many photos as needed or to try various poses.
The photos are characterized by a “neo-real mori” effect, which enhances realism while adding a desirable touch. With the new “Puri Remote,” users can control the shutter to capture the best moments. The machine also features a “Dedicated Mori Maker” function, developed with the understanding that each user has different preferences for photo enhancement. This function allows users to adjust the photo to their liking, and the system will automatically apply these adjustments to all the photos taken during the session by recognizing individual faces. ‘GIMMI’ is packed with innovative features not found in traditional purikura machines, offering a new and exciting purikura experience.
